Anyone know what could be wrong? I hate wasting money getting shit checked out unless I have to.

Mistress Eyahl is probably correct, it's a nerve problem that could even originate in your spinal column. Does the pain also include a tingleing sensation, if so I would suggest getting a CAT scan of your neck area, you could have a bulging disk(I know, I have a disk fragment[semi-broken off pc of disk] lodged between my 4th and 5th vertebrae and occassionally it will pinch the spinal column causing numbness and pain in my right arm/fingers - correctable by surgery or just waiting to see if the nerves move out of they way on their own[I chose option 2 - so far, so good])

The best thing you can do is to try getting those god damned wrist pads. You really don't want to get tested for CTS, really. You need to like needles (lots of them) if you do.

That's what I thought about it being more in the wrist, but I only notice slight pain on my lower wrist (the side right beneath my palm). I also know that the primary nerve set "pinched" in CTS doesn't relate to much of the ring and smallest finger, which is why I questioned it being primarily my index finger and surrounding area. It just feels like a general stiffness in my forearm, wrist, and most particularly my index finger, along with random twinges of pain. It's really irritating because it's the hand (and finger) I use for my mouse, and it's most especially painful when I'm using my mouse sitting here at my computer.
I'll give it a few weeks and see how it keeps up, I guess.

No tingles at all, just general stiffness in my forearm, and problems with primarily the region around my index finger. I'm thinking it might be the way I hold my mouse, it's on a higher level than my keyboard and the palm-side of my wrist rests on the mouse pad on the edge of that portion of the desk, that might cause some problems with blood circulation in that arm. However, I've had it in that same spot for over a year now, and I'd've thought if I was going to have problems, that it'd be before now if that's what it's related to.

PIE!!! Welcome to my world of Middle-Age-Man. The world of brand new aches and pains. It is a different world then you are use to. You must use new skills in which to move your body. I for one now roll out of bed as opposed to jumping out of bed which I did for years.
Seriously...you might have to get a arm/wrist splint. I had one of those for awhile. I was told by my doctor to wear it at night while sleeping. I kept beating up Mrs Dood with it. She was not amused...even though she is a nurse she was not amused. Wait a second...she is never amused. She is Nurse Rachet.
Also...find a good Doctor that will run the right tests and believes in pain management! Pain managemnet to me is: "A couple of vikes a day keeps the pain at bay...."
